Scenic Subdivion (Stevens Pass)

Welcome to the BNSF Scenic Subdivision page. Many of these photos have been in my collection close to 20 years when I first started taking pictures of trains on many a camping trip to the Skykomish area. I will try to arrange these photos from West (Everett) to East (Wenatchee) and by location as well. You will find that I have many more photos of the wet (I mean West) side of Stevens Pass owing to the fact that I was born and raised west of the cascade mountains. Hope you enjoy!

The two photos above were taken from the Money Creek Campground off Highway 2 as the
Scenic Sub crosses the Skykomish river. Above Left: Timed exsposure of a eastbound
freight. Above Right: The Eastbound Evening Empire Builder

Welcome to Skykomish

The two photos above were taken at the gravel pit spur just west of Skykomish
as the train comes off a short bridge and viaduct. Both photos were taken in the
mid 90's.

Amtrak EMD F40PH #263 along with her sister pull the
1985 version of the Empire Builder east through Skykomish.

Above and Below: Scenic and the west portal of the Cascade Tunnel.

The east portal of the Cascade Tunnel looks
much
different from the west portal because
it is the location of the fan house used
to
ventilate the 7.9 mile bore.

Left and below: These five photos were taken near the Merrit area along Nason creek.

Left: No, the engineer didn't forget to turn his headlight on. This is actually the rear of the train, using distributed power for help up Stevens Pass and dynamic breaking on the way down. This was taken across hiway 2 from the Nason Creek Rest area looking east.

Below: Eastbound coming off the Wenatchee River bridge at Peshastin.

Below Right: Westbound leaving Wenatchee passes the Cascadian Fruit Shippers Pearhouse.

Wenatchee, end of the Scenic sub and the start of the Columbia River sub.
